Lakers Rumors: Greg Monroe to Meet With Lakers

It’s that time again… We’re mere days from the utter madness of NBA free agency. So, now is when free agents line up meetings with potential destinations and, being that the Los Angeles Lakers are still one of the premier destinations in the NBA, we get to hear about all kinds of players meeting GM Mitch Kupchak & Co.

This time, it’s Greg Monroe’s turn. This via RealGM:

"Monroe said he will meet this week with the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers."

Monroe would immediately become the Lakers’ best big man, but serious questions remain about his fit alongside Julius Randle, whose development should be at or near the top of the Lakers’ priorities heading into next season. That being said, if Monroe does choose Los Angeles, that’s one more asset than the Lakers had a month ago.

I honestly can’t see this working out without some other subsequent move coming down the line. One team to keep an eye on in that report is Portland, as they’ll probably be out a power forward in the coming weeks.

Monroe is young, talented and available. Those three characteristics along make him worth looking at. A conversation is worth having, though anything more than that might be duplication and poor allocation of the few assets the Lakers actually have.
