The Lakers are looking to make a splash in free agency. After two years where they were unable to lure any stars to Los Angeles, Mitch Kupchak and the Lakers are hopeful this Summer will be different.

In a perfect world, the Lakers would sign LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports actually reported that Kupchak might be looking to clear some cap room in order to purse both big men. While it’s highly unlikely, the thought alone is enough to excite this fan base.
Los Angeles cannot come out empty handed, especially if they plan on pursing Kevin Durant next off-season. While they might not be able to attract all the big name free agents, there is still plenty of fish in the sea. According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, the Lakers are interested in Tyson Chandler and Robin Lopez:
After going with D’Angelo Russell in the NBA Draft, the Lakers need a big man to protect the rim. They have youngster Tarik Black, but Byron Scott needs an established center that can potentially start for this team. Chandler and Lopez wouldn’t be the splash the Lakers wanted, but either big man would instantaneously make this defense better.
The Lakers shouldn’t have any problem scoring the rock next season, but they need help on the defensive end. Chandler and Lopez aren’t the best rim protectors in the league, but they are still pretty good. In case the Lakers can’t convince Jordan, which is likely to be the case, Kupchak needs to have a solid back-up plan.
