Lakers News: Kevin Love Opts to Stay in Cleveland

The Lakers are running out of options. While the hype around LaMarcus Aldridge was exciting, the San Antonio Spurs are likely to end up with him. Now, the Lakers must gather themselves and continue pursuing players to help this team improve.

Kevin Love was another possibility for the Lakers, but that is another option that is officially off the table for LA. Love wrote a piece for The Player’s Tribune and the UCLA Bruin is headed back to Cleveland:

"I’m going back to Cleveland. After Game 1 of the NBA Finals, that’s when it really struck me. Sitting on the sidelines, I never wanted to play in a game more than that one. I had dreamed of playing in the NBA Finals and I just wanted to help my guys win."

Love and the Cavaliers got off to a rough start last season, but as the year went on, the Cavs started winning. The Cavs caught the injury bug at the worst time of the year and that probably cost them the NBA title.

Love couldn’t help his teammates in the NBA Finals and after several years of losing in Minnesota, Love wants to be part of a franchise that can win championships. With LeBron James, Love will be playing in the Eastern Conference Finals for the next 4-5 years.

It also helped that Love was given a max deal. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that Love will be a very rich man:

Many believed the Lakers would eventually land Love, especially after he had trouble adjusting to being the third option. Now, that seems long ago and the Lakers have yet to come to terms with any free agent.

Don’t worry Laker fans, the sky isn’t falling, it’s just part of the rebuilding process. These things take time and you cannot expect these big name free agents to join a team that is still a few years away from being a contender.

The Lakers need to sign some good players. As long as the Lakers improve, the superstars will come. We just have to be patient until then.
