When you think rivalries in sports, Boston Celtics-Los Angeles Lakers tops most lists. They’ve combined to win essentially half of the titles ever won in NBA history and have given fans countless moments we can remember vividly. Paul Pierce agrees.

This, via ESPN’s Justin Verrier:
"I grew up a Laker fan, and after playing for all the Boston Celtics teams and the history [between them and the Lakers], there’s no way I can go home and be a Laker. So this is the next best choice. And it’s always been a dream to play in front of my family and friends."
First: It’s awesome that a brand new Clippers’ signee is openly admitting the team he JUST joined was a second-best option to the Lakers. Take that: reporters claiming the latter has been leapfrogged because of a couple rough seasons. We can ditch that narrative now, right?
Second: It’s even more awesome to see an NBA player legitimately take into account a historic rivalry. In baseball, Red Sox and Yankee fans had to watch has Johnny Damon switched teams and, while this has probably taken place elsewhere in the NBA (Rick Fox was drafted by the Celtics, for example), fans can feel a little less like they are rooting for laundry.
I still hate Paul Pierce for wheelchair reasons, but it’s cool to hear the feeling is mutual.
