Kobe Bryant Injures Calf During Lakers Preseason Game

It’s no secret that the Lakers have had a horrible bout with injuries over the past few seasons.

More from Lakers News

Kobe Bryant has played 41 games in the past two years. Steve Nash suffered injuries that ultimately led him to retire. Even the Lakers’ supporting cast has taken a pounding, forcing role players to step up into starting roles.

Through five games, this year is no different.

Prior to the start of the preseason, new addition Marcelo Huertas injured his hamstring during training camp. In the second preseason game against the Utah Jazz, D’Angelo Russell suffered a bruised glute and Brandon Bass injured his knee after violently slamming it into the floor.

Even Roy Hibbert was banged up after the third game, drawing a “questionable” status for tonight’s game, though he ended up playing.

Now, in tonight’s preseason game against the Sacramento Kings, Kobe Bryant suffered a “left leg contusion” which forced him to leave the game.

Initially, it looked like Bryant just suffered a misstep, but it was later revealed that he was kneed in the calf. Bryant tried to walk off the injury but was eventually pulled out of the game and brought back into the locker room for treatment. The good news was that Bryant was able to walk off the court on his own without a problem.

While the Lakers PR staff obviously tried to downplay the injury, Kobe’s reaction to the injury should be cause for concern.

With each passing year, injuries get harder and harder to overcome, just ask Steve Nash, so even a minor injury sustained at age 37 should be looked at carefully and treated with caution.

Bryant has shown his resilience throughout his career, so hopefully this is just another hiccup on his road to redemption.

Updates will be provided as soon as they are available.
