Lakers rookie Larry Nance Jr. thinks entering the Slam Dunk Contest would be “cool”

The Los Angeles Lakers shocked much of the NBA world on the night of the 2015 NBA Draft, not by selecting D’Angelo Russell with the No. 2-overall pick, but rather with making a perceived reach to select Larry Nance Jr. with the 27th-overall pick. Despite Nance’s undeniable potential and athleticism, many pundits saw the move as essentially taking a second-round talent in the late-first round saw the pick.

However, Nance has started to carve out a solid role for the Lakers since making his debut on Nov. 6. While his production hasn’t been staggering, his ability to attack the rim and throw down a thunderous dunk has been. This has led to many fans pining for the rookie to be a part of the 2016 Slam Dunk Contest. Nance was asked about that after practice on Wednesday and is open to the possibility, saying it’d be “cool:”

Even with only seven regular season games and a preseason worth of action under his belt, the prospect of seeing Nance in the dunk contest is enticing. On Sunday against the Detroit Pistons, he drove down the line and soared through the Detroit defense to hammer home this beautiful jam:
