Kobe Bryant finds just the thought of him coaching after he’s done playing hilarious
The future for Kobe Bryant is essentially the only thing on the mind of Los Angeles Lakers fans and has been for the past week. As everyone knows by now, Kobe announced on Sunday that he will retire at the end of the 2015-16 season after 20 seasons with the Lakers and in the NBA.
This has obviously led to many people speculating about what the next step is going to be for Kobe. Is he simply going to settle down and walk away from the game completely? Some have wondered if he’ll have anything to do with the Lakers front office once he officially hangs it up. However, one of the simpler options that’s been tossed around has been the possibility of Bryant coaching.
After Kobe had a huge hand in the Lakers toppling the Wizards on Wednesday night, Bryant was asked about him coaching and responded like so:
The 37-year-old elaborated a little further after laughing at the question, saying that it was basically ridiculous to even suggest the idea of him coaching once he’s done playing:
Will Kobe be a coach when he retires? "Coaching, me? That's about the funniest thing I've ever heard."

While the idea of a player as great and influential as Kobe moving on to be a coach would fit a certain narrative, Kobe’s completely right to laugh at the notion. For all of the things that Bryant has been over the years for the Lakers, he’s not always been the most effective leader. He’s infamously stubborn in his ways and expects everyone around him to share the same maniacal drive that made him great. Those traits aren’t exactly flattering for a head coach.

It’s refreshing that Kobe is self-aware enough to know that, with his personality type, he’s not cut out for coaching. However, let’s hope he’s asked about it again just to have him laugh at the question again; that’s solid gold.
