A Lakers fan hopped on the Warriors bandwagon real quick during Tuesday night’s loss
The Los Angeles Lakers got trounced in relatively unseemly fashion on Tuesday night by the Golden State Warriors in the friendly confines of STAPLES Center. Even with the game being a mismatch from the opening tip, the Lakers fans were in attendance from the get-go to try and see the Lakers pull off the upset.
There was at least one less Lakers fan in attendance by the game’s conclusion.
As the Warriors were adding to their lead that was never really in doubt, the camera panned to the crowd to show a glasses-wearing Lakers fans looking down. Then came the troubling reveal as to why—the man was change his allegiance right before our eyes by putting a Warriors jersey over his Lakers jersey:
How is this a thing that actually happened? It’s one thing to be at home, see how hopeless the Lakers look this season (thanks, Byron), and then just distraughtly decide to root for a winner in the Warriors. While that’s still somewhat reprehensible in fan culture, it’s a lot better than unabashedly changing jerseys in your seat of the home arena of the original team you were supporting.

The 2015-16 NBA season has been more about suffering than anything for Lakers fans. Even if the team is supposed to be rebuilding, the way that the coaching staff and front office have handled everything has made things substantially worse to deal with for fans. There are more than a few times on most nights that the Lakers play when fans seriously reassess the situation of if it’s worth it to deal with the hardships that this team personally causes.
That being said, there’s something valuable in seeing the loyalty of the fans who put themselves through these dark times and persevere through them until the light at the end of the tunnel has been reached. Hats off to those fans—and shame on this guy and let’s hope his Warriors jersey is too small.
