Lakers Rumors: Brandon Bass Likely To Be Traded Before Deadline

Brandon Bass is the latest Lakers player to hit the trade block

Earlier this week, the Lakers let it be known that they were actively shopping center Roy Hibbert, and in a recent Basketball Insiders report, Steve Kyler also reported that Brandon Bass had joined Hibbert and Nick Young on the trading block.

This should come as no surprise, as it seemed almost certain that the Lakers would use the contracts of Lou Williams, Bass and Hibbert as trade bait somewhere down the line. It actually seems like Los Angeles had it in mind all along to see how the three free agents performed over the first half of the season and proceed from there.

Out of the three players on the trade block, Steve Kyler seems certain that Bass is the most likely to be on the move.

"The Lakers tried Bass on at a low dollar amount hoping he could contribute and be something of a tutor for forward Julius Randle. With the Lakers going nowhere fast, Bass is one of the guys the front office is expected to move by the deadline."

Similar to what trading Lou Williams would do, moving Bass would immediately enable more playing time for the young Lakers. Though Larry Nance Jr. and Julius Randle have still managed to get minutes, the player who will benefit most from a Bass trade is sophomore Tarik Black.

Black recently showed his ability to serve as a terrific roll man for D’Angelo Russell, as well as prowess at cleaning up the boards despite being undersized, and whether or not this is directly correlated to the decision to move Bass we may never know.

Kyler also mentioned that Milwaukee Buck’s center, Greg Monroe, and Phoenix Suns’ forward, Markieff Morris are also on the block, but where the Lakers look to unload Bass remains to be seen.

All in all, it is a great sign that the Lakers are finally fully embracing the future and realizing that winning now does nothing for their cause.
