Vs. Indiana Pacers – Jan. 9, 2009

One of the more curious instances that I discovered in doing the research of Kobe’s greatest games against each NBA team is that he hasn’t had that many transcendent performances against the Indiana Pacers as he has against a number of other NBA teams. However, he did have a handful throughout his career and none were as great as his showing on Jan. 9, 2009 against Indiana when he absolutely torched the Eastern Conference foes.

In a win as the Lakers were on their way to their first championship of the Kobe-Pau era, Bryant couldn’t be stopped in any way. He put up 36 points on 10-20 shooting, but it was how he contributed elsewhere that was really impressive. Mamba notched 13 assists and crashed the glass to grab seven rebounds on the night as well. To not only be scoring at that level, but to be setting up teammates with passing and rebounding as well just shows how destructive Kobe was being to the Pacers on this night.

As I’ve said before, Kobe as a playmaker is the best type of Kobe and this was a fantastic example of that. Across the box score from wire to wire, it was Bryant just dominating.
