5. Lakers Get Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook

Let’s kick off these outlandish hypotheticals with a bang and imagine the Lakers doing a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Under the rules of the NBA salary cap, all Los Angeles would have to send in return to OKC would be Roy Hibbert, Lou Williams, Nick Young, D’Angelo Russell, and Brandon Bass. That seems like a small price to pay to get arguably the most talented duo on any team in the league (that’s because it is, indeed, too small).

Not that there would be anyone on the Lakers or in the fan-base arguing a trade that gets Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in Los Angeles as soon as possible, the one bugaboo that people might point out in this hypothetical would be someone overreacting and saying, “The Lakers might say no because they would be sending away a 19-year-old D’Angelo Russell.” To that person: Stop it. Yes, DAR is fantastic and is going to be good. Russell Westbrook is already as good (if not better) than D’Angelo will be, though.

There are hopes that Durant and Westbrook putting on the purple and gold regardless of some bogus trade that the Thunder front office would be insulted for even being suggested. But in our dreams, let’s live out the fantasy and make it happen post-haste.
