Lakers Rumors: Phil Jackson LA Reunion in the Works?

Another Monday, another Stephen A. Smith Lakers rumor, this time involving the front office

As of late, Stephen A. Smith has been ever so candid when discussing the future of the Lakers.

Most recently, he said that he was hearing that a Kevin Durant-Russell Westbrook reunion on the Lakers was eminent, a rumor which Durant denied last October, but didn’t comment on this time around.

His newest rumor came Monday morning, as reported by Tommy Beer of BasketballInsiders.com.

Especially with the current state of the New York Knicks, this bold statement brings up a ton of questions.

More from Lake Show Life

First off, why would James Dolan just “let” Phil Jackson out of his deal to return to Los Angeles?

Would Jeanie Buss cleaning house really be enough to mend the damage already done by her brother in the first place?

Most importantly, when was the last time a Stephen A. Smith rumor actually came to fruition?

At this point, even Adrian Wojnarowski rumors should be taken with a grain of salt and greeted with open skepticism. In Smith’s case, the more he talks, the more it seems that he is just doing what he does best, saying whatever it takes to boost his mentions.

However, if the rumors somehow come to pass, the turnaround time for the Lakers would be reduced drastically. With Phil Jackson in the front office, a new coach on the way, a top draft pick hanging in the balance, and Kevin Durant’s free agency always on the mind, Los Angeles return to relevance would be drastic.

Smith’s recent rumors seem to just be pipe dreams about the best case scenarios for the Lakers in the coming years, but don’t get your hopes up just yet Lakers faithful, a lot must happen before the Lakers are truly out of this nightmare of a season.
