At the conclusion of the Lakers’ loss to the Nuggets, Kobe Bryant signed his shoes and gave them to young fans
Kobe Bryant played his last game against the Nuggets in Denver on Wednesday night, whether or not that was a good idea being irrelevant. The Los Angeles Lakers legend whose impending retirement is a cloud over this team’s season probably shouldn’t have played given his ailments physically, but he wanted to give the Denver fans one last night seeing him play. At the end of the game, though, Kobe decided to make the night ever more special for a few fans.
The Lakers put up a fight against the Nuggets, but ultimately succumbed to Denver in the fourth quarter. Kobe Bryant was on the Lakers bench as time ran out on his team in the contest, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t provide some lasting memories for a couple of young fans by autographing his game-worn shoes and handing them to a pair of Nuggets supporters:
Let’s just get the elephant from the room quickly as there are going to be plenty of people complaining that Kobe was doing this while the game was still being played. While you don’t want a player doing this under any normal circumstances, to call this Kobe Bryant farewell tour anything remotely resembling normal is patently false. Moreover, it’s quite conflicting for Lakers fans to see Bryant make a point to play in road games while sitting out for home games in STAPLES Center. That certainly sends a bit of a confusing message to loyal fans bleeding purple and gold.
Despite all of the weird things that Kobe Bryant has done over the farewell tour, it’s still incredible to see him take time for his fans around the United States like this and give them a lasting memory. Even if you wish he’d play more in games at STAPLES Center, you can’t deny how special all of this is for him and the fans that get to interact with him.
