5. Sheldon McClellan – Miami

Miami Hurricanes senior guard is an intriguing prospect on a number of levels. The Texas Longhorns transfer has been the unquestioned leader of a strong Miami backcourt all season, leading them to getting the No. 3 seed in the South Region. As of right now, he’s projected to either be a late second-round pick or to not be selected at all.

In 32 games in his senior year with the Hurricanes, McClellan put up 15.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 39.2 percent from beyond the arc. Though the Lakers would certainly like to see him show off his ability to facilitate a bit more in the NCAA Tournament, McClellan has shown that he has the ability to score at a high level.

The Lakers obviously have a young core in their backcourt with a ton of potential in D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson However, one of the things that they desperately need moving forward is to add depth behind Russell and Clarkson that has more upside than Marcelo Huertas and Lou Williams. Subsequently, the Lakers should have their eye on McClellan, especially if he drops out of the draft and is available to be signed as an undrafted free agent.
