Nash had just won back-to-back MVP awards and many argued at that time that at least one of those rightfully belonged to Bryant. As he does, Kobe let his play do the talking.
Near the end of Game 2 of the 2006 First Round series against the Suns, the Lakers were in a great position to steal home court back with a win in Phoenix. With the score 90-83 in favor of Los Angeles, Lamar Odom dove on a loose ball, grabbing the offensive board and finding a streaking Kobe going towards the hoop. As Kobe took flight, Nash stepped in front to take a charge, but was bulldozed by the Mamba, who stuffed in a powerful jam and hung on the rim for extra effect—getting an and-1 call in the process.
This call has been hotly debated as it came at such a crucial time in the game, and Nash’s feet were clearly set outside the restricted area. Lakers fans are definitely not complaining as Los Angeles went on to win 99-93, tying the series at one game apiece.
