Unsurprisingly, the Lakers reportedly will look to trade veteran wing Nick Young in the offseason

The biggest story with the Los Angeles Lakers and one of the most polarizing narratives in the NBA over the past week or so has been the videotape drama that has erupted between Lakers rookie D’Angelo Russell and veteran guard Nick Young.

Not only has there been the video itself, which leaked and showed Young admitting to infidelity in his relationship with rapper Iggy Azalea, but that Russell took the video has led to him essentially being drug through the mud by former players. Only making things worse are the reports that the Lakers locker room is essentially in shambles as a result of this with the rookie, in essence, being shunned.

The question that has been hanging on the minds of everyone as the dust starts to settle, though, is what the Lakers plan to do to remedy this situation going forward. Would they really risk trading the No. 2 overall pick in Russell with so much growth and upside ahead of him after all he did was make a stupid, immature mistake (as an immature 20-year-old should largely be expected to do)? Or would they instead just move on from the 30-year-old Young that is not a part of the organization’s future plans.

Apparently it’s the latter option that the Lakers are electing to go with. According to a report from Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times, the front office will once again put Young on the trade block this offseason once they are able to open up negotiations.

This isn’t unfamiliar territory for the Lakers or Young as they’ve had him on the trade block on numerous occasions throughout his tenure with the team. Given that Young is also due $11 million over the next two seasons on his contract, there was a chance that the organization would try and trade Young regardless of if this whole debacle had come about or not.

What’s worth noting as well, though, is that the reason that Swaggy P has been on the trade block for the Lakers on so many occasions is because there haven’t been many serious buyers when he’s been on there before. Subsequently, finding a trade partner might be far easier said then done this offseason.

No matter if Young is ultimately traded or not, the Lakers need to do whatever is necessary to move on from this whole ordeal. It was blown out of proportion and skewed in the first place and now needs to be put behind them so the franchise can continue to rebuild.
