Scott Brooks would like the Lakers head coaching job if it were to open up

More so than most teams outside of the 2016 NBA Playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers are at the start of a new era—an intersection of the old guard and the future with the retirement of Kobe Bryant. However, one of the biggest questions remaining is what the team plans to do in regards to Byron Scott and the head coaching position.

The general consensus among fans would be that they want Scott to get the axe and be fired sooner rather than later. However, recent reports have indicated that the Lakers and president Jeanie Buss might be more inclined to keeping the former Lakers player in his current position for at least another season. If that doesn’t happen, though, the job has at least one interesting, big-name candidate who’d be interested.

According to Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, former Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks would be interested in the Lakers job if it were to become vacant. Not only would Brooks (or almost anyone, really) be an improvement over Byron Scott, but his connection to a certain top-tier free agent target for the Lakers this summer is more than intriguing.

Obviously as the former coach of the Thunder, Brooks has heavy ties to Kevin Durant, who is undoubtedly the apple of the Lakers’ eye and the eyes of every other team with enough cap-room to sign him this summer. As such. you have to wonder if bringing Brooks in would help the Lakers in regards to trying to convince Durant to sign in LA.

Unfortunately, it seems now as if this is all a pipe-dream and that Byron Scott will again return as the head coach of this team. If the front office decides to not make a huge mistake, though, it’s good to know that quality options like Brooks that open up interesting opportunities would be interested int he gig.
