The Lakers may have finally fired head coach, Byron Scott, but for some, it may have come too late

After Byron Scott’s firing, there were those out there convinced that coaches would do their best to avoid the Lakers’ head coaching vacancy. However, the past day has thoroughly proven that those who thought that were dead wrong.

No matter the situation surrounding the team, the players, the front office, at the end of the day it is still the Los Angeles Lakers: The team with the second most championships in NBA history, the team with the most cap space come the 2016 off season, the team who always manages to find a way to minimize downtime and get back into contention.

With that being said, even though the Purple and Gold have finally rid themselves of the horror that was Byron Scott, they did so days after consensus front runner candidates, Scott Brooks and Tom Thibodeau were already taken off the board.

Now, after formally accepting the job with the Minnesota Timberwolves, reports are that Thibodeau would have “absolutely . . . given the Lakers a look,” but then again, who wouldn’t?

Regardless, the Lakers would have likely gotten hung up on the fact that Thibodeau wanted full control of whichever organization he decided to join, a demand that the Buss family was doubtful to comply with.

The saying goes “you can’t cry over spilled milk,” and such is the case with Brooks and Thibs. In actuality, the missed connections may actually turn out to be beneficial to the Lakers franchise going forward.

Personally, despite my acknowledgement that both would have been an upgrade over Scott during the season, neither would have been my first choice even if they were available for hire.
