Thon Maker

More from Lake Show Life

Fit: Great
Future Potential: Great
Immediate Impact: Low
Availability: Unclear

Thon Maker is one of the most intriguing, and potentially problematic, prospects in the entire NBA draft. A lanky 7-foot-1 big man with elite athleticism and surprising ball handling ability, Maker has the ability to become a dominant center in the NBA.

The fact that he has also demonstrated the ability to take and make shots out to three-point range checks yet another box for the Lakers. While his age, playing strength, and experience against elite competition are real concerns, if Thon Maker is on the board for the Lakers, they need to strongly consider taking him at 32nd overall.

A.J. Hammons

Fit: Great
Future Potential: Very Good
Immediate Impact: High
Availability: Likely

With Thon Maker as the highest risk-highest reward prospect the Lakers could hope to land, A.J. Hammons represents far less of a risk for the organization, with a potentially comparable reward. As a legit seven footer, with a 7-foot-3 wingspan, he is an even more proficient shooter than Maker, although at 23 years old he has less room for improvement.

His ability to score in the post and from the perimeter could serve the Lakers well, despite the fact that his athleticism in merely average. Additionally, as he averaged over four blocks per 40 minutes in college, he may be the best two-way player the Lakers could hope to land in the second round.

If the Lakers are looking for a safe, solid contributor in the second round, Hammons is most likely the best-case scenario.

Next: Zhou Qi and Malcolm Brogdon
