Lakers Offseason: Shaquille O’Neal Goes Undercover as Lyft Driver

For a player who was widely criticized for being lazy during his time in the NBA, former Lakers’ big man, Shaquille O’Neal sure has stayed busy in retirement

From his spot right next to Ernie Johnson on TNT’s Inside the NBA to his various car, foot cream and lotion commercials, former Lakers’ star, Shaquille O’Neal has done a great job of staying relevant in life after basketball.

Known for his larger than life personality, wide smile and booming laugh, Shaq was the perfect choice for his latest spot, where he goes undercover as a Lyft driver and picks up unsuspecting customers.

Decked out in hilarious outfits ranging from a nerdy poindexter, to emo rocker to French native who can’t speak a lick of French, Shaq hilariously tries to stay in character as he drives his clientele around.

Even though this took place in Atlanta, Georgia, you would think that Shaq would stick out like a sore thumb but a surprising number of people genuinely didn’t even realize that Shaq Diesel was their chauffeur.

Shaq does an amazing job at poking fun at himself from his poor free throw shooting to his self-proclaimed, awkward running style.

“I want to play ball but I run funny. My pants get stuck in my butt.”

It would be interesting to see how fans would react if Shaq did this in Los Angeles, but seeing the results, it was a wise decision to do so in an era less familiar with the Big Aristotle.

Undercover athletes has become a common occurrence as of late with Kyrie Irving‘s Uncle Drew rendition and LeBron James‘ Blaze pizza boy coming to mind, but Jeff Gordon may actually have the best one when he pretended to test drive a car for a Pepsi Max Commercial.

Though it’s highly doubtful, wouldn’t it be hilarious if Kobe Bryant starred in one of these undercover spots?

It’s always depressing to think about what should have, would have, and could have happened if Kobe and Shaq put aside their differences, but for now we can use Shaq’s comedic performance to distract us from these nostalgic thoughts.
