5. Coming Home

Over the past year, there have been many people that have talked about the possibility of the Lakers signing DeMar DeRozan as a free agent this offseason. A big factor in all of this is the fact that the former Raptors guard (and possible future Raptors guard since we don’t know) would be coming home to Los Angeles. That’s always a narrative that teams and the media can sell in terms of the comfort of players and so on.

That would somewhat be the case if the Lakers would be able to put together a trade that would bring in Kevin Love. As we all know, Love played his college basketball with the UCLA Bruins and was raised on the west coast before he ever went to college. Subsequently, it’s an environment that he’s familiar with and one where the Lakers could sell it as him coming home.

Love has also expressed interest in the past of wanting to come back to Los Angeles at some point in his career. Why not make it when he’s in the prime of his life in the NBA so that he can excel when he comes home? In this regard, it’s a move that makes almost too much sense.
