2016 NBA Draft: Lakers Select Brandon Ingram Second Overall
By Eric Yee
The wait is finally over, with the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers have selected Brandon Ingram from Duke University
Upon hearing the news that the Philadelphia 76ers drafted LSU forward, Ben Simmons first overall some fans still waited anxiously to hear Brandon Ingram’s name called before letting out a sigh of relief or a cry of exultation. I mean, if Anthony Bennett could go first overall, anything could happen.
So when Commissioner Adam Silver finally said those fated words, “With the second pick in the 2016 NBA Draft the Los Angeles Lakers select… Brandon Ingram,” many fans were put at ease.
However, diehards who follow the Lakers closely know that they aren’t out of the woods just yet. This is to say, a commonly overlooked fact is that the Lakers aren’t technically allowed to trade their actual pick, only the player selected with that pick.

Using history as a guide, trades of selected players normally happen relatively quickly afterwards. That said, seeing how the Lakers trade partner is most likely going to be the Chicago Bulls in an attempt to trade for Jimmy Butler, who knows what could happen later on.
Barring any trades, the Lakers should be more than ecstatic about the player they’ve selected as he represents the perfect fit at small forward to compliment their young core.
Prior to the draft, the Lakers’ brass made it known that they wanted to draft a player they could build around and if Ingram develops as scheduled, then they might have just found their guy.
