Five undrafted free agents that the Lakers should try to sign or invite to Summer League

After much hullabaloo and excitement leading up to it, the 2016 NBA Draft has come and gone. And while there was a palpable level of anticipation among Los Angeles Lakers fans leading up to the draft, the Lakers were ultimately predictable in what they did in the draft.

Of course, predictable isn’t a bad thing by any stretch. With the No. 2 overall pick, the Lakers took Brandon Ingram out of Duke and got a player who might be the best talent in the entire draft and that has tremendous upside moving forward in his career. Then with the No. 32 selection, the Lakers found great value in taking a young international center in Ivica Zubac well past where he was projected to be drafted.

The Lakers filled two positions of need with what they did in the 2016 NBA Draft as they needed a wing and they needed at least a warm body that could do some things well at center. However, the Lakers in their current state of the rebuilding process still have plenty of holes left on their roster that they have to look to fill this offseason.

Obviously they’re going to be an active team in NBA free agency considering that they have one of the largest amounts of cap room in the entire league. However, they would also be wise to look to make cost-effective moves as well. The best way to do that would be to look at the crop of undrafted free agents.

Whether they sign them outright or simply give them a shot to make the roster after an invite to Summer League in Las Vegas, the Lakers need to look at the undrafted players that haven’t yet been snatched up by other teams and see if they can earn a place on the roster in LA for the 2016-17 season.

Looking at that group of players, these are five players that deserve a shot from the Lakers.
