Five cheap potential targets for the Lakers in 2016 NBA free agency

When it comes to the 2016 Los Angeles Lakers free agency targets, most of the talk centers around the big names that will be available. That makes sense considering that the Lakers have a multitude of cap space heading into free agency and should be in the running to sign players like Nicolas Batum, Al Horford, Hassan Whiteside, or even Kevin Durant (if you believe in pipe dreams at this point).

However, to fully construct a successful roster, it takes more than just the big name players. The Lakers also have to look to try and sign players that will be able to fill out the roster at the end of the bench or at the back end of the rotation. Though the young core is set and a big-name free agent signing could set the top of the rotation further, the Lakers still have work to do.

For one, the Lakers could use some more depth in the frontcourt. Even if they were to sign players like Whiteside or Horford to start at center alongside Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr. playing at the four, having more big bodies in the rotation is going to be quite pivotal for the Lakers taking a step forward next year.

Moreover, the Lakers will also have to address their backcourt depth. Lou Williams is often forgotten at this point by fans (and many would like to see him be traded), but he’s also the ony true backup guard on the Lakers roster right now behind D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson. Thus that’s another focus in free agency.

So as the Lakers are preparing to bolster their roster to help the team improve, let’s dive into five potential Lakers free agency targets that could be signed for relatively cheap.
