NBA Summer League 2016: Los Angeles Lakers vs Philadelphia 76ers
There were plenty of high hopes and expectations for the Los Angeles Lakers as they made their way into the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV for the start of 2016 NBA Summer League. However, the Lakers emphatically made a statement and now they’ll look to do it again on Saturday night against the Philadelphia 76ers in their second game of Summer League.
Clearly there’s appeal in the matchup between the Summer League squads of the Lakers and 76ers is that it’s pitting the No. 2 overall pick in Brandon Ingram against the No. 1 overall pick in Ben Simmons from the 2016 NBA Draft. These two guys were both impressive in their debuts (Simmons’ coming at the Utah Summer League) and the matchup between the two hyper-athletic and lengthy forwards should be fun to watch.
For the Lakers, though, there were many other things that they’d definitely like to see more of as they head into the second game out in the desert. D’Angelo Russell was an absolute star with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in Game 1, so you’d obviously like to see more of that.
However, other second-year players that made the trip to Vegas in Anthony Brown and Larry Nance Jr. both showed tremendous progress on Friday night and the Lakers front office, fans, and coaching staff have to be looking for more of that on Saturday against the 76ers and even beyond that.
