Lakers Summer League: Breaking Down Brandon Ingram’s Performance
Breaking down the performance of Lakers rookie Brandon Ingram at Summer League
The Las Vegas Summer League is nothing more than an organized form of street basketball in which ball-handlers dominate and little defense is played. Indeed, players often compete against sub-par competition and even coaching staffs don’t utilize their full repertoire of schemes—something that’s true of the Los Angeles Lakers and every other team competing.
As such, it would be silly to take much away from a tournament whose primary purpose is simply to be hub for young players to showcase their talents and/or development over the course of the offseason. This is not to say, however, that the tournament as a whole is meaningless. Though Summer League certainly should not be regarded as much of a revealing platform, it can unearth a good deal of insight pertaining to young players.
Brandon Ingram, whom the Los Angeles Lakers drafted second overall a few weeks ago, was one of the many rookies who had their first taste of what it’s like to be a professional. To pass some of that time, here is an in-depth breakdown of Ingram’s strengths and weaknesses during his short stint in Vegas.
