Lakers and D-Fenders guard Jabari Brown is negotiating a contract that will send him overseas next season

With the Los Angeles Lakers having at least one, most likely two, roster spots open for the 2016-17 NBA season, there has been plenty of speculation about what the team could potentially do to fill those spots. If they were to look to the D-League and the Los Angeles D-Fenders, though, the name that comes up often is guard Jabari Brown.

After playing 19 games for the Lakers at the end of the 2014-15 season and then being the final cut from the Lakers at the end of the preseason in 2015, Brown played incredibly well for the D-Fenders last year. The University of Missouri product has shown the potential he has and could have a chance at making the Lakers roster in theory. However, he might not wait to find out.

According to David Pick, the Lakers guard is in the process of negotiating a contract with Euroleague team Anadolu Efes in Turkey:

Despite the fact that he could potentially make the Lakers final roster this season, this type of deal might bee too good for Jabari Brown to pass up.

Not only would it be hard for Brown to pass up a hefty six-figure contract to play in a league that’s more competitive than the D-League, but having success with this club could potentially help him carve out a spot on an NBA roster sooner rather than later by getting quality experience and being productive.

There’s nothing set with Brown and Anadolu Efes just yet, so it remains to be seen what will actually happen. However, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on for the Lakers as Brown signing to play in Turkey would ultimately further limit their options of how to fill the final roster spot or spots.
