The Lakers schedule for the 2016-17 NBA season has been released, tipping off on Oct. 26

It would be fair to say that there are a mixed bag of expectations for the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2016-17 NBA season. There is undoubtedly hope an reason to expect improvement, but also the need to temper expectations. After all, this is a team that’s been atrocious as of late. However, the Lakers 2016-17 NBA schedule could go a long way in determining their success.

On Thursday, the schedule for the 2016-17 NBA season was announced, including the 82 games that the Lakers will play. While the Lakers won’t play on opening night, they will open their season on Wednesday, Oct. 26. They’ll play the Houston Rockets at Staples Center to tip off the season in that matchup.

Confirming earlier reports before the official release of the schedule, it will again be a Christmas Day battle for Los Angeles. The Lakers and Clippers will do battle on the holiday for the second consecutive year. That a team whose won as few of games lately as LA gets that chance is impressive, still.

The Lakers also will only have to wait one month before meeting the Golden State Warriors. In fact, LA gets the dubious honor of playing the Warriors twice in three days on Nov. 23 and 25. Even the most favorable expectations for the Lakers say that spells trouble.

Brandon Ingram will square off against the only player taken ahead of him in the 2016 NBA Draft on Friday, Dec. 16 in a matchup with Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers. Though neither team is likely to be jockeying for playoff positions at any point this year, that doesn’t make the matchup any less intriguing or fun.

There are obviously plenty of other games on the 2016-17 NBA schedule that are going to be a treat to watch. Moreover, there are plenty that could define the season for every team. Take a look for yourself at the Lakers 2016-17 NBA schedule here.
