The Los Angeles Lakers may not have any players playing for the USA Olympic team, but they are still being represented by two of their backup point guards
Taking a general poll of Lakers fans thoughts on 33 year old rookie, Marcelo Huertas, people either hate him for consistently looking too slow and lost to play in the NBA, or love him for giving them minor glimpses of what Steve Nash was supposed to bring the team in 2012.
Despite what fans think, looking at the reactions that his teammates are posting on social media, they obviously appear to fall into the latter category, aka the Marcelo Huertas Fan Club.
D’Angelo Russell got the wave started when he posted a quick clip of Huertas getting by a Spanish defender and finding a teammate for an easy layup. Ironically, that player may very well have been his new Lakers’ teammate, Jose Calderon but we can’t be sure.
Additionally, Russell included chants of “Celo! Celo,” to further clarify his support of his teammate.

If that weren’t enough, recently re-signed center, Tarik Black also got in on the action as Brazil took on Luis Scola, Manu Ginobili and Argentina on Saturday.
Similar to Russell, Black commented, “My boy Celo,” but this time instead of dishing for an assist, as fans have gotten so used to seeing on the Lakers, he used a Nene screen to perfection and hit an easy free throw line jumper.
In addition to his defensive woes, another knock on Huertas is that he overpasses, so the hope is that next season he can find the balance between hitting open shots and finding free teammates.

Regardless, it is a great thing to see the young Lakers supporting their teammate down in Rio even from home in California.
