Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell and wing Nick Young have been working out their problems according to the latter
Somehow, the Snapchat drama that infiltrated the Los Angeles Lakers locker room in the 2015-16 NBA season still has legs. However, it seems like some positive signs are coming from it for once. Namely, it would appear that second-year point guard D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young are on their way to reconciliation.
As a refresher, Russell fell under heavy criticism from Young, fans, and plenty of NBA players past and present last season when a Snapchat video he filmed leaked. The video was taken in the Lakers locker room and featured Young admitting to cheating on his then-fiance, rapper Iggy Azalea.
When everything transpired and in the weeks and months following, it was quite a tempestuous time in the Lakers locker room. Many speculated about the future of Russell in LA and likewise with Young. What was clear was that these two weren’t going to be able to co-exist for much longer—or so it seemed.

However, Young says that the air is starting to clear between the two teammates. In an interview with Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, Young said that he and Russell have been “working it out” and are on the path to mending the relationship. He also stated that they were teammates and that enough time had passed that it was “old” news at this point.
Admittedly, it’s odd to see Young say this. After all, the leaked video debacle wound up being the catalyst for his and Azalea’s eventual breakup. Moreover, the widely held belief all offseason is that Young will be waived or cut before the start of the 2016-17 season.
However, it’s still a positive to see both Young and Russell displaying maturity. One of the biggest changes fans have been hoping for with the arrival of Luke Walton has been establishing a professional and positive culture within the Lakers. This would serve as a sign of that coming to fruition.

Ultimately, though, we still don’t know if Young will be around for opening night on October 26. Even still, these are positive signs coming out of Los Angeles right now in regards to culture. And that, in the end, could mean more than Young’s presence on the roster.
