The Lakers have reportedly signed former UCLA Bruins forward Travis Wear to a training camp deal

On the same day that the Los Angeles Lakers signed undrafted rookie Zach Auguste to a deal, the front office wasn’t done. While the Auguste signing brough the roster to 16 men, they were still interested in bolstering the roster for training camp. Thus, they had one more signing ready to roll on Monday.

In fact, the Lakers were able to bring in someone with Los Angeles ties on Monday.

According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Lakers have agreed to a deal with forward Travis Wear that will bring him in for training camp. Wear will reportedly have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the regular season roster. Given the signing of Auguste, though, it’ll be quite a tough task to crack the final 15:

Wear’s ties to Los Angeles go back to college where he suited up for the UCLA Bruins. Initially, he and his twin brother, David Wear, attended North Carolina. After not seeing much playing time, though, they transferred to the west coast. There, Travis Wear established himself as the more promising NBA prospect.

Despite being relatively unknown, Wear has a bit of NBA experience, though not much. He played 51 games for the New York Knicks in the 2014-15 season, seeing 13.2 minutes per game. In that run, Wear produced 3.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game though he shot only 40.2 percent from the floor. Last season, though, Wear took his talents to Spain to play with RETAbet.es GBC.

Who knows whether or not this amounts to anything. In reality, this could be nothing more than getting a warm body with size and relative experience in to work with the team at camp. However, he’s looking like he’ll have a shot at a roster spot. So now we’ll see if he can capture that opportunity.
