Lakers Finally Break Losing Streak Against 76ers

The Lakers took on the Philadelphia 76ers Friday night and were finally able to add one in the win column.

The Lakers came out aggressive from the start of the night after rumors of Luke Walton calling the team “soft”.  They got out to an 13-0 run before allowing Philadelphia to score. Julius Randle had a career night in terms of efficiency as he shot ten for thirteen from the field finishing with 25 points. He also added 9 boards and 5 assists.

The team looked a lot better on offense throughout this game. LA moved the ball a lot more this game than during the losing streak and it was noticeable. The team only finished with a modest 19 assists, but that ball was moving very well.

Here are four takeaways from LA’s victory.

This team responds to Luke Walton

Nick Young said after the teams eighth straight loss to the Nets Luke Walton lit his guys up even raising his voice which is uncommon for Luke, but it was definitely what this team needed. Young said the team got the message and he wasn’t lying. As previously stated the Lakers came out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back.

The offense was a lot better tonight

Los Angeles was looking to move the ball tonight and they finished with 19 assists. A big part of their offense was fast-break points where they had 27. Another key factor for the Lakers was the ball was just finally going through the hoop for them. The team shot 45.6 percent from the field which is great compared to how it had been going for them throughout. The Lakers were also able to have five guys in double figures which is good sign they’re sharing the sugar out there.

Lou Williams continues to make huge contributions

Lou Williams was once again able to come off the bench and get buckets for the Lakers. He was the second leading scorer in this one with 18 points, shooting 41 percent from the field. Williams has cooled off just a bit since his ridiculous four game stretch when he averaged 34 points per, but he’s still making great contributions every night off the bench.

The defense was actually OK

This may be debatable because Philly still shot 45.7% from the field but Los Angeles forced a lot of turnovers. The Lakers forced 20 turnovers. 20! I know it’s against the worst team in the Eastern Conference but hopefully this is something the team can build on looking forward.
