The Lakers traded Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Corey Brewer and a first-round pick.

After completely overhauling their front office, the Lakers moved rather quickly in their efforts to trade Lou Williams prior to Thursday’s trade deadline.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski:

While Corey Brewer may not seem like a worthy addition, the draft pick afforded in the deal makes the trade worth it.

The Lakers have shown a propensity for being able to spot gems in the later picks of the draft, nabbing the likes of Larry Nance, Jr, Ivica Zubac, and Jordan Clarkson. Fortunately, the architects of those draft selections – Jesse Buss and Ryan West – will remain in the front office.

While the Lakers certainly regressed by losing arguably their best player this season, the loss of Williams will presumably open up playing time for sophomore guard D’Angelo Russell. In addition, the transaction will allow Williams to capitalize on his offensive firepower for a playoff contender as opposed to a tanking team in need of keeping its lottery pick.
