ESPN’s Marc Stein reported Wednesday that the Los Angeles Lakers are seeking a second round draft pick for Nick Young.
The Lakers made a trade before the deadline! Rejoice, for this is a rarity, or at least it was during the Buss/Kupchak era. But things are different now and after trading Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, Magic Johnson is reportedly still looking at making a deal for the trade deadline ends tomorrow at 3 p.m. EST.

The fact that Young can realistically get the Purple and Gold a second-rounder is unreal. This is a guy everyone wasn’t sure would be in the NBA this time last year. The Lakers tried to deal this offseason him but couldn’t unload him for a bag of chips. Now teams are willing to give up an actual pick in an NBA draft for him? A lot changes in a year.
Young is shooting a career-high 41.3 percent from behind the arc and would provide a big boost off the bench for any contending team. Especially a team that can throw away second-round picks like they’re, erm, trash.
If Magic can pull off TWO trades in his first few days as the president of basketball operations, it would be hard to complain about his new role. If he gets a first-rounder for Young, he deserves a second state in front of Staples Center.
But what do you guys think? Can the Lakers get any value for Young? Is Swaggy P going to see out the rest of his contract in Los Angeles? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
