The Los Angeles Lakers will sign D-Fenders guard David Nwaba to a 10-day contract, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania.
Once the Los Angeles Lakers announced they were negotiating a buyout with 35-year-old Spanish point guard Jose Calderon, there was immediately speculation surrounding who would replace him.
Was Anthony Brown going to get another shot at sticking with the Purple and Gold? Were they going to pick up one of the recently released players? Were they going to call someone up from the D-League?
The latter was the most sensible conclusion, and Shams Charania of The Vertical confirmed the Lakers were going to call up a player from their D-League affiliate, the D-Fenders.

The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo product has been impressive in his lone season with the D-Fenders. He leads all players on the team with a Real Box Plus/Minus of +6.4. Nwaba is also the D-Fenders’ second-leading shot blocker, which can be attributed to his 6-foot-11 wingspan.
He’s not going to space the floor much for the Lakers, but he adds a defensive makeup to the roster that the Lakers don’t currently have. Nwaba could also open things up with his ability to attack the rim, allowing the shooters on the team to get good looks from the outside.
