Ivica Zubac’s promising rookie season will be cut short due to an ankle injury he suffered during Thursday night’s game against the Timberwolves.
On Thursday night when the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Minnesota Timberwolves, rookie center Ivica Zubac went down with an injury. While the initial results came back negative, Zubac did not return to the floor that night.
The hope was that Zubac was okay and would be ready to go for Saturday’s cross-stadium rival game against the Clippers, but the team delivered some bad news this afternoon.

According to the press release by the Lakers, Zubac suffered “a high ankle sprain in his right ankle.” Zubac will sit for what’s left of the season and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Zubac has been impressive since the All-Star break, so seeing him miss an opportunity to get some work in before the season’s end is disheartening. However, it’s good to know that this injury is short term and won’t affect the Lakers playoff hopes–because there are none.
In fact, Zubac’s injury just solidifies #TeamTank. With arguably their best center on the roster out, head coach Luke Walton will try and experiment with a few new starting lineups, likely with Larry Nance Jr. and Julius Randle in the frontcourt.
