Recent Los Angeles Lakers have been about point guard Lonzo Ball. Would the team consider passing on him in the NBA Draft?

As the offseason approaches, there have been plenty of Lakers rumors about who they will be taking with the second overall pick. Despite a chance that they would lose the pick, the Lakers were able to hold on in the draft lottery and secure the second overall pick.

Due to the Boston Celtics having the first overall pick in the draft, the Lakers won’t be able to get whoever they want. Point guard Markelle Fultz is the best overall prospect in the draft, but the Celtics have a great point guard on their team already. Because of this, there is the possibility that they could trade or pass on Fultz with the first overall pick.

No matter what the Celtics did, it was assumed that the Lakers would be able to grab Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick. LaVar Ball, Lonzo’s dad has been saying that Lonzo would be a member of the Lakers while he was still playing at UCLA. When the Lakers got the second overall pick, that looked to be very true.

However, recent reports are that the Lakers would pass on Ball if the draft was today. According to Jordan Schultz, the Lakers are concerned about not only LaVar Ball, but also about Lonzo’s ability to be a star.

In a loaded draft class, the Lakers have to get a star with the second overall pick. Ball was a very good player at UCLA, as he led the nation in assists per game. However, there were games where he didn’t quite dominate like he should have.

Next: What six players are coming to workout for the Lakers?

The Lakers have yet to hold a workout for Ball, who has already said he won’t be working out for the Celtics. If that workout goes well, things could change. Furthermore, they do seem to have some early concerns about taking him second overall. With less than a month to go before the draft, this is certainly a development to watch.
