Los Angeles Lakers Twitter Mailbag: Latest Team Buzz
By Nick Ziegler
With the NBA Draft getting closer, we open up our mailbag to answer questions from Los Angeles Lakers fans.
With the NBA Draft less than two weeks away, Los Angeles Lakers fans are certainly wondering what the future holds for the team.
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of speculation about what the Los Angeles Lakers will be doing in the NBA Draft. While we all thought it was a sure thing that Lonzo Ball would be selected, recent reports have indicated that it may not be the case.
With a lot of news surrounding the team, we opened up the conversation for the fans to ask questions. Be sure to send in your questions for next week’s article! Here is what fans wanted to know in this week’s edition.
There are certainly a good number of people out there that don’t believe that the Lakers should take Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick. I think there are a few reasons for this. Seeing how loaded this draft class appears to be is certainly one of them.
Players like De’Aaron Fox and Josh Jackson are both excellent players and could help the Lakers. With that being said, I would be very surprised to see the Lakers take someone other than Ball with the second overall pick. He is pretty much ranked as the second-best overall prospect by everyone, and he will likely be on the Lakers next season.
Since the Lakers are such a young team, it’s hard to say that they have a leader on the court right now. However, Magic Johnson appears like he is going to be an excellent leader for the franchise moving forward. With a lot of young talent on the team, one of these young prospects could certainly separate himself from the bunch and become a leader. If they do draft Ball second overall, he could certainly fill that role as a true floor general.
The Lakers are certainly on the right path to being a playoff team again. However, the important thing might be to not rush this process. With the second overall pick, the Lakers could be getting a franchise player.
With a young core of Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, and D’Angelo Russell, the Lakers have been doing well in the draft recently. Due to some big-name free agents being available after the 2017-18 season, the Lakers could land one thanks to their young core.
If the Lakers can land a player like Paul George, there’s no reason not to think that they won’t be a playoff team in the 2018-19 season. For next season, growing this young core they have will be the main priority.
