The Punchline

The true punch does not come to fans and media expecting Lonzo to be the hero the Lakers are waiting. The punch directly comes to LaVar Ball, and like most punches, this one hurts. With Magic selecting someone other than Lonzo, Magic now forces Lavar to move his circus tents to the next city that drafts his son.

Since LaVar has stated his son would only workout for the Lakers, LaVar would receive brief media attention immediately after the shocking draft decision. From an economic standpoint, with Lonzo not playing in Los Angeles, LaVar would be losing money. Being able to market his BBB brand from UCLA to the Lakers is much easier than UCLA to Phoenix Suns.

Considering that the Lakers have been actively working out other prospects, they are clearly not as high on Lonzo as we all once thought. Seeing Josh Jackson work out twice for the team is a strong indication that they have an interest in taking him. Also, seeing Dennis Smith and De’Aaron Fox work out for the team could mean they are open to moving down.
