Los Angeles Lakers: Three reasons why Lakers should not draft De’Aaron Fox
By Matt Leaman
Out of Control/Physical Toughness
From time to time this college season, Fox showed he can play wild and out of control. This is one example of how his quickness and speed can hurt him at the NBA level. He turned the ball over only 2.5 times per game at Kentucky but would miss multiple layups and shots during fast breaks.
Consequently, he exposes the ball too much and will be more turnover prone against bigger and stronger competition at the next level. If he can slow down and take time for plays to develop it would help him immensely.
His small frame could also pose potential problems. Throughout the season he’s shown an inability to take contact while driving to the hoop and get to the free throw line. If Fox can add some strength to his game he won’t get pushed around nearly as much and could score 5-10 points a game from the free throw line which would add to his value.
Furthermore, he will need to improve his finishing skills around the rim instead of relying on floaters like much of last year at Kentucky against SEC defenses.
