Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Reasons why they should trade for Paul George
By Matt Leaman
Elite Scorer
Last season with the Indiana Pacers, George was able to average 23.7 points on 47 percent shooting overall from the field on a bad team. He attempted 18 shots a game while converting 8.4 of those. From two-point range, he shot 50.7 percent compared to his 40 percent average from the three line.
Going into more detail on George’s offensive game, he shot 57.7 percent from 10 feet or closer, 43.2 percent off of pull-up jumpers, and 43.6 percent off catch and shoot opportunities. Along with these offensive numbers, he also got to the free-throw line five times a game where he shot just shy of 90 percent.
Being on a team with more talent will help increase most of these numbers. The Lakers haven’t had a scoring option like this since the days of Kobe Bryant in his prime years. Having this type of all-star scorer will help open up the court to young players including Brandon Ingram, and Lonzo Ball if he’s selected with the 2nd overall selection.
Whether the Lakers need George to make a clutch three-pointer, post up a defender in the post, or drain a mid-range jumper, he will be their go-to offensive player.
