Recent Lakers rumors are that they are still focused on developing their young talent versus making a splash in free agency. This will likely give Tyler Ennis another shot with the purple and gold.

Over the past number of weeks, there have been plenty of Lakers Rumors. While most teams are gearing up to make major plays during the NBA’s free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to be conservative. Magic Johnson told Spectrum SportsNet that the Lakers weren’t going to target big players in this year’s free agency and instead they are focusing on free agency in 2018.

"“We’re not going to be a major player. We’re going to probably sign one or two guys and they will be guys that fit a need for us.”"

Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times quoted Rob Pelinka on L.A.’s free agency plans.

"“Of course in free agency we will be very, very strategic to keep the cap space in July 2018,” Pelinka said. “We are going to be very sacred about that. We worked hard to get in that position and so we will be smart in free agency but add the right players to make sure our young guys are developed the right way and not too much too soon.”"

With the Lakers focused on free agency in 2018, Ganguli reports they aren’t going to commit to any multi-year deals. That means L.A. is more likely to keep players from last year’s roster.  The Lakers just picked up David Nwaba’s $1.3 million option. Here’s what Ganguli had to say about the Lakers re-signing Ennis.

"Right now, the Lakers don’t have a true backup point guard, but they are leaning toward re-signing Tyler Ennis, who joined the team via trade last season."

The Lakers don’t have a backup point guard and Ennis can fill that need. He proved to be a capable player in that role for them at the end of last year and now has the chance to benefit from the Lakers’ lack of desire to spend big.

L.A. has ten players under contract including Nwaba plus four new draft picks. That leaves one roster spot open to fill the NBA’s 15-player limit. Outside of a shocking turn of events, Ennis will fill their final roster spot.
