Matt Thomas; Point Guard

The Lakers are desperate to find players that can help them improve their three-point shooting this season. They have found an excellent player to possibly fill that need in Iowa State sharpshooter, Matt Thomas.

Thomas is about as good as they come when shooting from three-point range. Last season with the Cyclones he made 44.5 percent of his attempts from deep, which led the Big 12. If Thomas wants to make it in the NBA, he will have to continue knocking down three-pointers at that clip, at least to start out.

Outside of his marksmanship, Thomas brings very little to the table. He is undersized for a shooting guard, standing only 6-feet-4 inches tall. He does not have prototypical point guard skills, as he averaged only 1.3 assists per game in his college career.

But, we have seen undersized two-guards develop and succeed in the NBA. Thomas should try and take some tips from J.J. Redick, who is about to land a contract that will pay him upwards of $16 million annually. Redick is only 6-feet-4 inches tall but has developed a more diverse offensive game, making him a desired commodity.

Thomas will have his work cut out for him to make the Lakers. If he knocks down 45 percent of his three-pointers, they will be hard-pressed to not keep him around. He .could be an interesting developmental prospect for the Lakers.
