The Los Angeles Lakers have been connected to free agent point guard, Rajon Rondo. Here are three reasons the Lakers should avoid signing Rondo.
The Los Angeles Lakers and the rest of the NBA will be celebrating the Fourth of July, but those are not the only fireworks we will see. The first weekend of the free agency period is in the books.
The Oklahoma City Thunder added Paul George via trade from the Indiana Pacers. Chris Paul was shipped to the Houston Rockets in an eight-player swap with the Los Angeles Clippers. Paul Millsap is now with the Denver Nuggets after agreeing to a big free agent contract.
Those are just a few of the storylines to this point.
One thing is for certain; the Lakers haven’t been very active to this point in free agency. They’ve met with Rob Pelinka’s former client, Dion Waiters, Utah Jazz point guard George Hill, and the Chicago Bulls’ Rajon Rondo. Yet, no deals have been made. The Lakers have been looking at one-year deals for the three players mentioned, and reluctant to give any of them more than that.
The Lakers front office has made one thing very clear; they won’t jeopardize cap space for next year with any deals this offseason. Of the three players the Lakers have met with, they should either bring in Hill or Waiters for one season.
In my opinion, Rondo doesn’t fit with this Lakers team at all. He’s been on four different teams the past few seasons, and wouldn’t be a great leader for the second overall pick, Lonzo Ball, to learn from.
That is only one reason to avoid Rondo. Check out our slideshow of the three reasons that the Lakers should pass on signing Rondo to a contract.
