Fill Hole At Shooting Guard

The Lakers came into the offseason with a surplus of backcourt players. But, as the offseason has progressed, what was a surplus has become a need.

The Lakers traded D’Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets along with Timofey Mozgov in exchange for Brook Lopez and the 27th pick. Nick Young then opted out of his contract and decided to sign with the Golden State Warriors.

As a result, the Lakers are left with only Lonzo Ball, Jordan Clarkson, and David Nwaba in the backcourt. The Lakers now have a need in the backcourt and Caldwell-Pope would fill that role. Clarkson is not an ideal fit next to Ball as he isn’t a great shooter. If Caldwell-Pope is signed, Clarkson can fill the sixth man role, a role he should excel in.

Backcourt help is what the Lakers have been targeting all offseason. Ball is the only one locked into a role right now, so anyone that is signed has to fit well alongside him. Caldwell-Pope would fit the bill. The next reason to sign Caldwell-Pope is what makes him a good fit alongside Ball.
