INDIANAPOLIS, IN - MARCH 15: Paul George

Recent Lakers rumors have been about the possibility of Paul George joining the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent next offseason. Recent comments by George might cause some concern for Lakers fans.

For much of the offseason, most Lakers rumors have been about Paul George joining the Los Angeles Lakers. Whether it was via a trade this offseason or a free agent next season, George has been linked to the Lakers.

This offseason, the Lakers were able to move the contract of Timofey Mozgov in order to secure more open cap space for next offseason. Also, the Lakers haven’t been big players in free agency this offseason, as they most they have offered a player is a one-year deal.

After originally stating that he would prefer to play for the Lakers, George has downplayed that recently. Now that he is paired with Russell Westbrook, George is a lot happier than when he was in Indiana.

"“I grew up a Lakers and a Clippers fan,” George said to Lee Jenkins of SI.com. “I idolized Kobe. There will always be a tie here, a connection here. People saying I want to come here, who doesn’t want to play for their hometown? That’s a dream come true, if you’re a kid growing up on the outskirts of L.A., to be the man in your city. But it’s definitely been overstated. For me, it’s all about winning. I want to be in a good system, a good team. I want a shot to win it. I’m not a stats guy. I’m playing this game to win and build a legacy of winning. I’ve yet to do that. I’m searching for it. If we get a killer season in Oklahoma, we make the conference finals or upset the Warriors or do something crazy, I’d be dumb to want to leave that.”"

After these comments, all Lakers fans will be focusing on how the Oklahoma City Thunder do next season. As George says, he would be foolish to leave the Thunder if they find a way to dethrone the Golden State Warriors.

Luckily for Lakers fans, even the combination of George and Westbrook might not be enough to stop their emerging dynasty. After making moves to create cap space for next summer, the Lakers will have to hope they can lure George to Los Angeles.
