Los Angeles Lakers: Four reasons drafting Lonzo Ball was right move
The Los Angeles Lakers drafted Lonzo Ball with the number two pick in this year’s draft. Here are four reasons why this was the perfect decision for the franchise.
Lonzo Ball only spent one year in college at UCLA where he averaged 14 points and 7.6 assists per game. Ball also led the Bruins to a Sweet 16 appearance before falling to Kentucky.
After that loss a lot of people questioned his fire because of the fact he got outplayed once again by De’Aaron Fox and his lack of emotion after the loss. When the Lakers landed the second pick in the draft the Lakers got their pick of the litter, being able to select anyone except Markelle Fultz, who was widely believed to be chosen first.
The Lakers could have gone a couple different ways, especially with all the noise that came out from all the workouts. The front office was reportedly not very impressed with Ball’s workout, but Kansas’ Josh Jackson stood out. Fox was also brought in for a workout and was viewed as a better prospect than Ball by multiple GM’s.
Despite all the smokescreens and all the different names that could’ve been called by the Lakers, it ended up being none other than Lonzo Ball. The Lakers got who they wanted all along.
At this point in Lonzo Ball’s brief career we can only hope that the Lakers made the right choice with the number two pick. So far we’ve only seen him play in a couple of summer league games, but we can already see why the organization felt he was the right guy for the job. Here are four reasons why the Lakers made the right decision selecting Ball.
