May 19th, 2001 vs San Antonio Spurs

Just a week after sweeping the Sacramento Kings in the conference semifinals, the Lakers had an even bigger task on their hands. Up next was the NBA’s leading defense in the San Antonio Spurs.

With the likes of Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and company, the Lakers figured to have a tough series. Though it didn’t end up looking very close at all.

After Game 1 of this series was all said and done, Kobe scored the most points ever against a Spurs team. Kobe and the rest of the Lakers were on a mission to cement their legacy asthe greatest team in playoff history.

After dominating in all aspects of the game, Bryant finished the night with 45 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Overall from the floor, he shot 19-of-35 on the night with just one three-pointer.

Kobe simply took over this game and showed the Spurs just how tough it was to guard both himself and Shaquille O’Neal. The Lakers never looked back in this series, and won it convincingly, four games to none.
