Even though there isn’t much news surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers, Lonzo Ball’s father, LaVar Ball, is always good for an interesting quote or two per week.

In a recent interview, LaVar Ball made a bold statement about LeBron James needing to join the Los Angeles Lakers in order to win another ring.

After a few tough years for the Lakers, they appear to be heading on a path toward success. The decision to bring in Magic Johnson as the Team President certainly appears to be a good move. Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka appear to have a plan to restore the Lakers to their glory.

So far, we have seen the Lakers establish a good young core of talent. With Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram leading the way, the Lakers look like they will have a bright future. Even though the Lakers have some serious potential already on their team, they also have the cap space to be a major player in free agency next offseason.

With some big names set to hit free agency, the Lakers might be able to add two superstars to their already talented core. One of the players that have been linked to the Lakers is LeBron James. Due to the Cavaliers becoming a bit of a circus with Kyrie Irving demanding a trade, it is hard to imagine James will be staying much longer in Cleveland.

Recently, LaVar Ball spoke about James, and he believes that LeBron will need to come to the Lakers in order to win another ring.

With the way the Cavaliers are currently built, it is going to be hard for them to dethrone the Golden State Warriors, even if Kyrie stayed. As we saw in the NBA Finals, the Cavaliers were outmatched. Also, if LeBron wasn’t on the court, things got ugly.

While LaVar’s statement is a bold one, the Lakers would certainly be a contender if James came to Los Angeles. Having young players around James would help give him some rest, which will be needed for him during the long season.

The 2018 offseason is still far away. However, the Lakers will certainly be a team to keep an eye on with their available cap space.
