Lakers All-Time Starting Five Point Guard: Magic Johnson

Choosing a starting point guard for the Lakers All-Time starting lineup was not easy. They have two All-Time greats that could have earned this spot. However, we are guessing that spot will go to Magic Johnson.

Johnson was the leader of the Showtime Lakers and one of the greatest point guard to ever play the game. His playing style was something to marvel at given the dominance and grace he displayed when on the court. Standing 6-feet-9 inches tall, Johnson possessed an advantage that no other point guard has come close to having.

Johnson is the Lakers all-time leader in multiple passing categories. He has the most career total assists in Lakers history and highest assists per game total. He also leads in assist percentage, true shooting percentage, and offensive rating. Basketball Reference also has Johnson owning the best Box Plus/Minus, Offensive Box Plus/Minus and value over replacement player in Lakers history.

Johnson played his entire 13-year career with the Lakers. His career was cut short because of the HIV virus, which caused him to miss four seasons. He was able to mount a comeback for the 1995-96 season, appearing in 32 games.

Imagine what his stats would look like had he not been forced to miss those four seasons.
